St. Mary's School is housed in a three story brick building with steel beam construction. The strength in the construction of our school leads to the building being designated as a fallout shelter.

A single building entry policy with a security system at the front door was installed in 1999. All entries to the building are locked after the school day begins. Parents and visitors to the school during the day must identify themselves at the front door. A camera and audio speakers allow the office to view and speak to the visitor and permit entry upon identification. The safety of our students is ensured using this system.

The hallways of St. Mary's School welcome all that enter with student painted murals of God's creations. The first floor murals depict gardens; neighborhoods and Noah's Ark. Descending to the basement the walls convey a picture of going below sea level.

Our school has a high-school sized gymnasium with hung hardwood floors, recently sanded and refinished.

The gym is used for daily Physical Education classes, recess, before and after school activities and community sport activities. The gymnasium is equipped stage and bleachers that pull out to facilitate presentations of concerts, plays, graduations and school performances.

Two outdoor playgrounds and a blacktop area provide space for recess and Physical Education when the weather permits. One playground is equipped with size and age appropriate structures for our Pre-K students. This playground has a grass and wood chip base and it is located a short distance away from the classrooms to permit use without disturbing the lessons of older students. The second playground is located between the school and the Parish Center. This playground is equipped with apparatus for students in grades K-6.

Our school has a large cafeteria and kitchen located in the basement. St. Mary's School contracts with the Cortland City Schools to provide a Federally funded lunch program. Students may select from a hot menu item, soup and sandwich or they may bring their lunch from home.

St. Mary's School installed new energy efficient windows throughout the main building in 1997. The new windows modernize the look of the building, improve safety and save energy.

The maintenance of our building for the improved safety and accommodation of student needs is a high priority for St. Mary's School administration. Long-range planning for buildings and grounds includes maintaining current facilities while making improvements on a priority basis.
